the opening of the new legislative sessio.

Very pleased to meet with Speaker of Parliament Madobe ahead of the opening of the new legislative session. We enjoyed a good discussion and very useful exchange of ideas on a wide range of issues of national importance, including governance, the rule of law, and the role of representative institutions in ensuring Somalia’s long-term stability.

The United States recognizes the central role of Parliament as the voice of the Somali people and as a cornerstone of the country’s democratic future. Strong, independent institutions are vital for building trust, advancing accountability, and creating the foundation for sustainable peace and development.

Our conversation reaffirmed the importance of continued dialogue and cooperation between Somalia’s leadership, civil society, and international partners. The United States will remain a steadfast partner in supporting Somalia’s democratic journey, and we commend Speaker Madobe’s leadership at this critical time. We look forward to engaging further with Parliament and all Somali stakeholders as they work toward a more inclusive, prosperous, and secure Somalia.”
