New Somaliland laws towards neighboring Somalia
#Visas or travel authorizations issued by the Federal Government of Somalia are not considered valid for entry into the Republic of #Somaliland. Individuals who arrive at airports, seaports, or land borders carrying Somali-issued visas or travel documents will be denied entry and may be asked to return to their point of origin. The Republic of Somaliland, which has maintained a self-declared independence since 1991, operates its own immigration, customs, and border control systems separate from those of the Federal Government of Somalia.
Travelers intending to visit Somaliland are therefore required to obtain a Somaliland visa or official travel authorization directly from its diplomatic or consular offices, or through recognized immigration channels prior to travel. This requirement applies to all categories of visitors, including tourists, journalists, business professionals, and international organization staff.
The government of Somaliland emphasizes that the policy aims to protect its sovereignty, regulate the movement of people across its borders, and ensure compliance with national laws. Authorities have repeatedly reminded travelers that possessing a Somali visa or travel permit does not grant permission to enter Somaliland, and failure to comply with these entry regulations may result in denial of entry or other legal consequences.
