Somalia Records 3.9% Inflation in October 2025 Amid Rising Costs in Key Sectors
Somalia’s annual inflation rate stood at 3.9% in October 2025, according to the latest report from the Somalia Bureau of Statistics, reflecting a moderate but notable rise in the cost of living across several key sectors. The increase was primarily driven by higher prices in essential and frequently consumed categories, highlighting ongoing pressures faced by households.
The most significant price surge was recorded in Recreation, Sports & Culture, which climbed by 8.3%, indicating rising costs of leisure activities, cultural services, and related goods. Similarly, Personal Care & Miscellaneous Services saw a notable rise of 7.5%, reflecting increased expenses for grooming items, beauty products, and general personal services.
The Education sector also reported a 7.0% increase, likely tied to higher school fees, learning materials, and educational services. Meanwhile, Health costs rose by 6.6%, driven by growing expenses for medical care, pharmaceuticals, and related services.
Food & Non-Alcoholic Beverages—a category that deeply affects everyday households—registered a 5.3% increase, pointing to continued pressure on food supply chains and consumption essentials.
Despite these increases, overall inflation was partially contained by significant declines in two key sectors. Information & Communication recorded a 6.6% decrease, making digital services, communication tools, and data packages more affordable for consumers. Additionally, Transport costs fell by 3.6%, easing the burden on commuters and logistics, and helping counterbalance some of the upward movement in other categories.
Overall, the inflation landscape in October 2025 highlights a mixed economic picture, where rising costs in household essentials and services are softened by reductions in communication and transportation expenses. The Somalia Bureau of Statistics notes that continued monitoring is essential as the country navigates both domestic economic shifts and external global pressures.
