Somalia Opposition Rejects Mogadishu Local Council Elections, Accuses Government of One-Party Vote
#BREAKING: Somalia’s opposition has announced that it will not recognize the outcome of the local council elections scheduled for December 25 in Mogadishu, accusing the federal government of orchestrating what it described as a one-party vote.
Opposition leaders said the electoral process lacks transparency and inclusivity, claiming that key political actors were excluded and that the government has tightened its control over the vote. They argued that the conditions under which the elections are being held undermine their credibility and fail to reflect the will of the public.
The opposition warned that proceeding with the elections in their current form could deepen political divisions and weaken trust in democratic institutions. They called on the government to engage in dialogue, ensure fair competition, and create an electoral environment that allows all political forces to participate freely and equally.
