Somalia’s intelligence agency NISA says its forces killed around 12 militants, including a wanted commander, during an overnight operation in Jambaluul, in Afgooye district, Lower Shabelle.

Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) announced that its special units carried out a precise overnight operation in the Jambaluul area of the Afgooye district, located in the volatile Lower Shabelle region.

According to the agency, the raid targeted a cell linked to ongoing militant activities threatening security in the southern part of the country. NISA confirmed that around 12 militants were killed, among them a high-ranking and long-wanted commander believed to be involved in orchestrating attacks against government forces and civilians.

Officials added that the operation comes as part of a broader offensive aimed at weakening militant strongholds in Lower Shabelle, a region that has witnessed repeated security incidents in recent months. The agency emphasized that the mission was based on accurate intelligence, allowing forces to strike with minimal collateral damage.

NISA stated that such operations will continue in the coming days as Somalia pushes forward with efforts to restore stability and expand government control across strategic territories.
