Somalia’s SNA Recaptures Hawadley, a Strategic Town in Middle Shabelle


Somalia’s National Army (SNA) has recaptured the village of Hawadley, a strategically significant town located between the Jowhar and Balcad districts in the Middle Shabelle region, following a coordinated military operation aimed at restoring government control and strengthening security along key supply routes.
According to security officials, the operation was carried out after intelligence reports indicated the presence of armed militants in the area. SNA forces advanced from multiple directions, engaging hostile elements and successfully regaining control of Hawadley after brief clashes. The army said the operation was completed with minimal losses and resulted in the dismantling of militant positions within the town.
Hawadley holds strategic importance due to its location along a vital corridor linking Jowhar, the regional capital, with Balcad and the outskirts of Mogadishu. Control of the town is expected to enhance the security of movement for civilians and commercial traffic, while also cutting off key routes previously used by militants to launch attacks or transport supplies.
Military officials stated that stabilization efforts are now underway, including the clearance of explosives, the deployment of additional troops, and coordination with local authorities to ensure lasting security. The SNA also emphasized its commitment to protecting civilians and facilitating the return of normal life to the area.
Residents welcomed the return of government forces, expressing hope that improved security will allow for the resumption of economic activities and access to basic services. Local elders called for sustained presence by security forces to prevent militants from regrouping.
The recapture of Hawadley comes as part of a broader offensive by the Somali government to weaken armed groups across Hirshabelle State and central regions, as authorities continue efforts to restore stability, improve governance, and support reconstruction in liberated areas.
