The Legacy of President Hassan Sheikh: Four Years On

Four years under the leadership of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud have ushered Somalia into a new and defining chapter of its history.

In this brief yet transformative period, the nation has:

1. Secured comprehensive debt relief
2. Witnessed the lifting of the decades-long arms embargo
3. Joined the East African Community (EAC)
4. Earned a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council
5, Rebuilt the foundations of its national army and security institutions
6, Embarked on oil exploration and inaugurated its first Space Port, the first in Africa

These milestones stand as testaments to Somalia’s resilience and determination to reclaim its place among the community of nations.

Yet, beyond these visible achievements lies a deeper calling, the quest for true political independence. Somalia must be free to make its own sovereign choices, including the long-awaited transition to one-person-one-vote elections, without interference or undue influence.

This noble goal, however, continues to face resistance from opposition forces and vested interests that place personal ambition above national unity.
