Puntland Minister Slams Turkey’s Role in Somalia, Warns New Air Command Undermines Sovereignty

Puntland’s information minister strongly criticised Turkey’s growing role in Somalia, describing Ankara’s involvement as self-serving and exploitative rather than supportive of Somali national interests. He argued that Turkey’s actions undermine Somalia’s sovereignty and risk entrenching foreign influence in sensitive security and political affairs.
The remarks came after Turkey announced the formation of a new Air Task Command in Somalia, a move that has sparked concern among regional authorities in Puntland. The minister warned that such military initiatives, if carried out without broad national consensus and transparency, could deepen internal divisions and weaken Somalia’s ability to independently manage its security and territorial integrity.
