Princess Fawzia: From Egyptian Royalty to Queen of Iran

Princess Fawzia of Egypt, daughter of King Fuad I, remains one of the most iconic royal figures of the 20th century—renowned not only for her royal lineage but also for her striking beauty and complex life across two powerful Middle Eastern monarchies.
Born on November 5, 1921, in Alexandria, Fawzia was a member of Egypt’s prestigious Muhammad Ali dynasty. Her life took a historic turn in 1939 when she married Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, then Crown Prince of Iran, in a union that was widely seen as a strategic political alliance between Egypt and Iran.
Following her husband’s ascension to the throne in 1941, Fawzia became Queen consort of Iran, symbolizing a rare royal connection between two influential nations in the ion. However, despite the grandeur surrounding her position, the marriage was reportedly strained and ultimately ended in divorce in 1948
Fawzia’s beauty captured global attention during her lifetime. She was famously described by Britain’s ambassador to Egypt as “the most beautiful woman in the world,” a reputation that was further cemented by international media and photographers of the era.
After her divorce, she returned to Egypt, where she lived a more private life, later remarrying and distancing herself from public affairs. Despite the political upheavals that reshaped both Egypt and Iran in the mid-20th century, Princess Fawzia remained a symbol of elegance, diplomacy, and royal history.
She passed away in 2013 in Alexandria at the age of 91, leaving behind a legacy that continues to fascinate historians and admirers alike.
