Trump and Xi Agree Iran Must Never Obtain Nuclear Weapons, Stress Importance of Open Strait of Hormuz
The White House announced that U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping reached a shared understanding on key geopolitical and energy security issues during recent discussions, including the future of Iran’s nuclear program and the stability of the Strait of Hormuz.
According to the statement, both leaders agreed that Iran must never be allowed to obtain a nuclear weapon, signaling rare alignment between Washington and Beijing on one of the Middle East’s most sensitive security matters.
The talks also focused heavily on the Strait of Hormuz, the strategic maritime route through which a significant portion of the world’s oil supply passes daily. Xi reportedly opposed any militarization of the strait and rejected efforts to impose tolls or restrictions on international shipping through the waterway.
China also expressed interest in increasing purchases of U.S. oil, a move viewed as part of Beijing’s efforts to reduce dependence on energy shipments vulnerable to disruptions in the Gulf region.
The White House described the discussions as constructive and emphasized that both nations share an interest in maintaining stability in global energy markets and preventing further escalation in the Middle East.
The developments come amid rising tensions surrounding Iran’s regional activities and growing international concern over the security of global trade routes and energy supplies.
